Since 1991, the Bundeswehr Verification Centre (BwVC) has ensured the implementation of the 20 arms control treaties currently binding under international law and policy, which the Federal Republic of Germany has concluded with other states, according to the specifications of the Federal Foreign Office and under the leadership of the Federal Ministry of Defence. The Centre’s approximately 185 members conduct worldwide observation flights, inspect military installations of the treaty partners and accompany foreign delegations coming to Germany for inspection.
